Biography

Alexandra recently graduated with an Upper Second degree in music from the University of Huddersfield, having previously studied piano at Trinity College of Music in London. She was a member of the Brighton Youth Orchestra in 2004 and performed with them at Glyndebourne Opera House and for a concert at the Brighton Dome featuring Evelyn Glennie.

During her time at Huddersfield she performed regularly as part of the orchestra, symphonic wind orchestra and new music ensemble, with whom she performed a concert as part of the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival which was subsequently broadcast on BBC radio 3. She recently performed again for the festival, in an ensemble of 20 harpists, including Rhodri Davies and Eira Lynne Jones. She has also performed regularly with the Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra.

Weddings

A harpist at your wedding adds a touch of elegance and can put the final polish on your special day. Alexandra has been playing for weddings for five years, and has played in stately homes, hotels, and even castles all over the UK. Whether you would like music for the ceremony itself, the drinks reception or wedding breakfast, Alexandra has repertoire to suit your tastes. If you would like a special request, she will be happy to learn your piece of choice.

Corporate Events and other Functions

Alexandra is available for hire for all kinds of functions. Previous engagements include providing background music at a celebratory meal for the Vice chancellor of Huddersfield University, and at a drinks reception for HRH Queen Elizabeth II on her visit to the Huddersfield. She has played for weddings in various venues including churches, castles and stately homes. Her repertoire ranges from classical and folk to more popular pieces and requests are also possible.

Workshops

Alexandra has given workshops in schools, demonstrating the harp and compositional techniques for the instrument. While studying at university she often helped composers to write for the harp, being an instrument which is often misunderstood. She believes that it is important for young musicians to have the opportunity to learn about less common instruments and their capabilities. Her workshops are now part of the West Sussex LEA’s enrichment programme for Gifted and Talented children.

Teaching

Alexandra is an experienced piano and harp teacher, having taught for a much of her time while studying at Trinity. She has taught pupils of all ages and abilities. Lessons cost £12 per half hour.
